A themed VulnHub box with three hidden keys. Web recon to root.
Mr Robot 1 is one of the most played VulnHub boxes because it teaches web without any exotic tricks. It runs a single public web app that leaks more than it should, and the whole box hides three keys. You find the first by reading a file everyone forgets to check, the second after you turn recon into a and pivot users, and the third when you escalate to .
Your two objectives here: land a shell and read the second key (user), then escalate to root and read the third key (root). The first key is a warm-up you will pass on the way.
This VM runs entirely on your own hypervisor, on an isolated lab . That is what makes attacking it legal. Keep it off any network you do not .
VulnHub mirrors change over time. Open the entry linked in the setup panel, grab the current download, and verify the checksum if one is published before you import.
Bring-your-own-VM boxes use proof revealed through the hints once you have genuinely completed the objective. Capture a flag by doing the work, then submitting the token. Phase B hosted machines will issue real per-instance flags planted on the target.
Work it yourself first. The hints are here when you are genuinely stuck, and each one costs points, so earn them.
Download the VulnHub image, import it into your hypervisor (UTM / VirtualBox / VMware), and boot it on a host-only or NAT network.
